A Roar Reborn – Toho’s 30cm Favourite Sculptors Line Godzilla (2023) Captures the Fury of the King of Monsters
Japanese manufacturer PLEX, in partnership with X-PLUS, has announced the latest entry in the Toho 30cm series under its Favourite Sculptors Line – Godzilla (2023) from the acclaimed film Godzilla Minus One. Based on a garage kit prototype by Black Dragon Studio, this detailed rendition is scheduled for release in December 2025 at a retail price of 46,200 yen.
Marking the 70th anniversary of the legendary kaiju, Godzilla Minus One revisited post-war Japan to portray humanity’s struggle in the aftermath of destruction. With visual effects achieved by a compact team of just 35 artists, the film went on to earn the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Oscars, cementing its place in cinematic history.
This 30cm-scale figure recreates Godzilla in mid-roar during his rampage through Ginza, the sculpt capturing his forward-leaning posture and aggressive expression. The body measures approximately 33 cm in height and 62 cm in length, with intricate surface detailing that reproduces the coarse skin texture, damaged facial tissue, and scorched appearance from his on-screen battle scars. The paintwork evokes a sense of motion and chaos, with layers of smoky grey and charred tones enveloping his body.
A limited edition will also be made available exclusively through the Shonen RIC official website, featuring Godzilla moments before unleashing his radioactive heat ray – complete with translucent dorsal fins tinted in luminous blue to simulate the energy build-up effect.
This addition to the Favourite Sculptors Line continues Toho’s dedication to preserving the artistry and legacy of Japan’s most iconic monster, capturing Godzilla at his most fearsome in this 2023 incarnation.
