Sony and ANICORN mark 30 years of PlayStation
Sony marks a milestone year with a wristwatch rooted in the design language of the original PlayStation
Created to commemorate the PlayStation 30th Anniversary, the PlayStation Limited Edition Mechanical Watch translates three decades of console history into a mechanical timepiece developed in collaboration with ANICORN. The design draws directly from Sony’s first-generation console, incorporating recognisable elements while maintaining the proportions and restraint expected of a contemporary mechanical watch.
The dial and strap feature repeated motifs of the four iconic PlayStation controller symbols, while the watch hands reference the Start and Select buttons, integrating familiar interface elements into the time display. Branding is kept understated, with the references intended to be identifiable without overwhelming the overall design.
Alongside the mechanical watch, a Memory Capsule accessory is included, equipped with built-in NFC functionality. This capsule allows users to save, load, and overwrite digital data, extending the concept of memory beyond traditional timekeeping. The watch is presented in a screwed-down metal container, designed to reflect the utilitarian character of early gaming hardware and physical media storage.
Pre-orders for the PlayStation Limited Edition Mechanical Watch are scheduled to open on 19 December 2025. The watch is priced at approximately S$1,050 based on current exchange rates. The release is positioned as a limited edition tied specifically to the PlayStation 30th Anniversary.
