From the standard M113A1 to its improvised ACAV gun-shield configuration, Takom’s new 1/35 scale release traces the evolution of one of the Vietnam War’s most recognisable vehicles.

The centrepiece of the line-up is the M113A1/M113A1 ACAV (2215), a two-in-one kit that allows modellers to build either the standard M113A1 armoured personnel carrier or the up-armed ACAV configuration, distinguished by its improvised gun shields and additional pintle-mounted weapons fitted by crews in the field. The kit is engineered to offer both build options from a single boxing, giving modellers the flexibility to represent either variant without needing to purchase separate releases.
Complementing the personnel carrier is the M577A1 Command Post Carrier (2216), which replaces the M113’s standard troop compartment with a raised superstructure housing map tables, radio equipment, and the extended crew space needed for a mobile command post. The taller roofline and rear-mounted generator distinguish the M577A1 from its APC counterpart, and the kit is built to reflect these command-and-control-specific features.
Rounding out the release are two dedicated accessory sets. The M113A1/M113A1 ACAV APC Equipment and Storage Set (2217) adds field-applied stowage, crates, jerry cans, and other exterior detail items typical of Vietnam-era carriers, while the M113A1/M113A1 ACAV APC Infantrymen set (2900) provides 3D-printed crew and infantry figures posed to suit the vehicles’ open-top and ACAV configurations.
Two big box sets bundle these releases together. Big Box Set 2215WA combines the M113A1/M113A1 ACAV two-in-one kit with the M577A1 Command Post Carrier and the Equipment and Storage Set, while Big Box Set 2216WB pairs the same two vehicle kits with the 3D-printed Infantrymen set, offering modellers a complete Vietnam-era diorama grouping in a single purchase.
